Having long ago dumped the pop and coffe habits, I am a long time water drinker of 60 to 80 oz a day. But, I was tired of buying water at a dollar (or more) a bottle ... so I tried travel mugs ... and found they had too little capacity (requiring too frequent refilling) and their lids leaked a lot when not kept upright. So, I tried a plastic water bottle ... only to find the plastic taste and lingering soap aftertaste didn't really add to my water drinking experience.I thought "doesn't anyone make a stainless steel water bottle" ... and Klean Kanteen does ! I've had it for about a week now and I absolutely love it.It holds 27 ouces, fits nicely in my briefcase, never leaks, has a handsome masculine "steel and black" look, allows for wide mouth or "pop top" drinking methods AND solves a problem I only thought of AFTER I purchased the bottle. The problem?

As most of you know by now, with plastic pop-top or "sports" drinking bottles, you SQUEEZE the bottle to get the water to come out ... what to do with a steel sports top bottle?Suck?Sure ... but what happens when you suck on a plastic water bottle ... the sides collapse.Since they are leak proof, pop-top water bottles have no way for air to get in to replace the water you're sucking out. What will they do on a STEEL water bottle where the sides surely aren't going to collapse as a result of your sucking on the mouthpiece? There's a very clever little rubber valve that's built into the lid that allows air IN while you're sucking on the mouthpiece but doesn't allow water to escape when you're not.The fact that it makes the bottle sound like a small bird chirping while you drink ... well ... it's kind of cute.

In addition to the pop top and screw top (wide mouth), the Kanteen also comes with a cap and a cap keeper (so you won't lose the cap) to allow you to keep the mouthpiece covered when you're in environments you don't want soiling your mouthpiece.

A few notes to those considering this purchase:

A)This is not an insulated container, so don't think about keeping hot coffee, tea or chocolate in it unless you plan to wear mittens while holding the container and don't care how quickly the contents cool off.

B)Because it's not insulated, (nor did I expect it to be), when you fill this container with COLD liquid, if you live in a humid environment, condensation WILL form on the outside. This isn't a problem for me, but it's worth noting if 1) you plan to keep the filled bottle near or in contact with paperwork (as in your briefcase or school bag) or 2) if you will be using it in an environment where a wet surface might be hard to hold on to.These don't pose problems for me, but I can see where they might for some.

AS for clean up, the bottle cleans quickly and easily with no soap aftertaste ... I'm totally thrilled. And with water running around $1 per 20oz bottle, this thing paid for itself in a matter of days.
